Shane Gowan

New Zealand Hydrogen COUNCIL Board Member

General Manager Industrial New Zealand & Pacific / Energy Transition Lead, BECA

Currently a board member of two subsidiary Beca companies and an alternate board member of a Beca Joint Venture organisation. These Companies are:

  • Beca New Caledonia which is responsible for the Beca business in New Caledonia

  • Beca Engineering New Zealand Ltd (BENZ), a business responsible for managing engineering services for global clients

These board positions have been held for over 7 years. Shane has significant experience in governance practices at an executive level including risk and financial management on a global basis in New Zealand, Australia, Europe, and the Americas.

Shane manages a business employing 220 staff in 12 locations in New Zealand and the Pacific providing a diverse range of services to many clients, many of whom are members of the Hydrogen Council. Beca's Global Energy Transition Lead supporting clients in their decarbonisation activities with a particular focus on green hydrogen. Beca is currently involved in the implementation of several Green Hydrogen Projects in New Zealand.

Shane has worked with a wide variety of New Zealand and Regional Industrial clients and is well networked within the Hydrogen Industry. This includes being a member of the Aotearoa Circle Low Carbon Energy Roadmap Leadership Group responsible for developing a National Energy Roadmap.

Shane is technically experienced in the manufacture of Hydrogen through past asset management roles as Asset Engineering Manager of Refining New Zealand's Hydrocracker Complex at Marsden Point.

Shane also has extensive experience in managing a diverse portfolio of capital projects in complex manufacturing industries and has sat on significant portfolio and individual project steering committees. This experience includes being the Global head of Engineering for the World's largest Zinc manufacturer.
