Hydrogenation of oils and fats is undertaken to raise the melting point of manufactured products. Hydrogen is also used in the production of soap and detergents and as a washing, bleaching and peeling agent for food use.  It is also used as an inhibiting agent for dried fruits and vegetables and for the removal of glucose from egg products.  The pharmaceutical industry uses hydrogen to manufacture vitamins and other pharmaceutical products.
