Ammonia/Fertiliser

Electrolyser technology was originally developed specifically for ammonia production. Today, the ammonia/ fertiliser industry consumes more than 30 million metric tons of hydrogen annually, making the industry the biggest consumer of hydrogen.  However, all of the hydrogen used for ammonia production is currently produced via fossil sources such as natural gas and coal which contributes significantly to global green-house gas emissions.
